Preview to Sponsor Rainforest Foundation Rainforest Foundation

"At Preview we scan many tons of our customers' paper documentation every year, allowing much of it to be recycled".

The increasing demand for paper currently outstrips the amount of pulp-wood produced by tree plantations. As such, the wood has to be sourced from old-growth forests, including tropical rainforests. Thus the rich biodiversity of the world's rainforests and the livelihoods of the native peoples who depend upon them is threatened by global economic pressure from many sources. We can do something about it by helping the work of the Rainforest Foundation.

"For every new customer signed from January 2004, Preview will donate up to £100* to the Rainforest Foundation".

*at £1 per 1,000 scanned images. The average 4-drawer filing cabinet contains 20,000 A4 pages - a £20 donation.

Aperture Cards

If you have been following the news recently, you will know that Mickey Mouse has just celebrated the 75th Anniversary of his first appearance in the 1928 animated picture, Tugboat Willie. Coincidentally (but nothing to do with Mickey Mouse, of course) the technology upon which the Aperture Card is based - the 80 column punched card - also has its 75th birthday this year.

In November, we emailed our customers about a new scanning service that allows Aperture Cards to be digitally captured, edited and viewed on a LAN (or on the web with Preview's eView+ service). Judging by the huge response, there must be millions of aperture cards still out there...

News briefs...

A new member of staff joins Preview as Account Manager with responsibility for Preview's existing clients and brings several year's experience in Information Technology to his new role. Our new man enjoyed Big Game watching and white water rafting in his native Zimbabwe and, after being UK resident for several years, says he now feels quite at home negotiating the morning traffic on the M25.
